Overview

Description

Established in 1978, Hilliard’s Bay Provincial Park protects some of the best sand beaches in northwestern Alberta as well as some regionally significant features including several different kinds of wetlands, shoreline escarpments, and raised beaches – relics of a larger Lesser Slave Lake in earlier times.

The variety of habitats make for bountiful birdwatching, and in addition to a beautiful beach, the lake provides great fishing, ice fishing, boating, paddling, waterskiing, and windsurfing prospects. More than 3km of trails offer hikers and bicyclers opportunities to explore the park and connect with the Trans-Canada Trail network. Fun and fascinating interpretive programs are offered on weekends in July and August.

This lovely spot a short walk to the shore of Lesser Slave Lake has 170 well-treed front-country sites suitable for both RVs and tents. There are both unserviced and powered sites, with pit toilets in the campground loops. The shower building offers flush toilets as well as showers and a laundromat. Sewage disposal is provided a 5-minute drive from the campground, near the entrance to the Provincial Park. Firepits are provided. The campground booth sells ice, a small range of snacks, and camping necessities. The nearest town, High Prairie, is a 35-minute drive away and offers a full range of supplies and services.

Water is available from standpipes at this campground.
